There is another significant cost that must be factored into the Iraq debacle: Afghanistan. New York Times reporter Dexter Filkins recently quoted a western aid official lamenting "the tragedy ... the $70bn that would have given you enough police and army to stabilise this place all went to Iraq". By diverting troops and resources to Iraq in 2003, the Bush administration allowed the Taliban to re-establish themselves in the Afghanistan-Pakistan border areas, and the country had steadily collapsed back into insurgent warfare. Having failed to complete the mission in Afghanistan, the Bush administration handed the new president a war that promises to be as difficult and costly as Iraq has been – if not more.

You, my friend are an excellent example of the dangers of our same old uninformed America blindly responding to issues about which they know nothing. Ignorance is no excuse.
I'm assuming you would have completely ignored Iraq and the genocidal pogrom being undertaken there. Awfully decent of you. Really. Even so, your blindness to the atrocities taking place there does not account for your lack of concern for the potential threat posed there for the socioeconomic health of the entire world. You think the economy is bad now? Ifs and buts and beggars riding. I'd rather you shut up and just say thank you.
And "re-establishing themselves" is an interesting turn of phrase cosidering that to do so would indicate that these terrorists had ever been dis-established, a fact that someone in the prior administration, thankfully, figured out (along with the Soviet Union)was next to impossible.
A much larger concern for the Obama lackeys will be their difficulty explaining how Obama's lack of foreign affairs expertise and his undeterred eforts to create conflict in Iran are ALSO the fault of the Bush Adminstration. Or should we invite the entire Middle East to a town meeting in our world that's "just a village?"
God save us from second guessing arm-chair politicos that spend all their time pointing fingers instead of offering real solutions!
